HISTORY

The Philadelphia Comedy Festival is back and celebrating its 3rd season this year! Philadelphia has a rich history of successful comedians such as Bill Cosby, David Brenner, Michael Colyar, Kevin Hart and
Paul Mooney, to name a few.

Located on the famous SOUTH STREET, the LAFF HOUSE COMEDY CLUB is often called Philadelphia's “original comedy club”, as it has been entertaining audiences for more than 25 years.

It is one of the most popular venues for emerging comedians as well as established acts in today’s market, blending a wide variety of comedic styles and talents. The LAFF HOUSE currently has a lineup of diverse entertainment ranging from amateur nights to world renowned professionals. Our goal is to create an atmosphere that is conducive to fun, laughter and just a great time. In a society that is plagued with a myriad of social ills the best anecdote is laughter. Some of the acts that have graced the Laff House stage: Kevin Hart, Dom Irrera, Mike Epps, Lisa Lampanelli, John Witherspoon, Elayne Boosler, Michael Colyar and many, many more…..

In 1985 the doors of the “Funny Bone”, opened to the public, offering adults an alternative to the club and restaurant scene on south street. The Funny Bone provides budding humorist a soapbox to stand on. The Funny Bone underwent a series of transformations when it became “Catch a Rising Star”. This further solidified the club’s objective to focus on emerging talent. The comedy club remained loyal to amateur comedians while increasing their recruitment of well-known humorists.

Famed comedian David Brenner created more exposure while also attracting more nationally recognized comedians when he allowed his name to be used by the comedy club and called it “David Brenner’s Laugh House”. The Comedy Club went through yet another transition in December of 1997; the club took the name LAFF HOUSE to capture the flavor so popular in today’s comedy market.
